Rectoverso
Project type
Theatre & Dance
Date
May 2021
Location
Jakarta, Indonesia
Inspired by the Mahabharata's Arjuna and Srikandi, whose gender identities defy traditional norms, Rectoverso debuted as a contemporary theater and dance performance by Lune Teater on May 28, 2021, at Gedung Kesenian Miss Tjitjih, Jakarta. Commemorating the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia, the play intertwines the lives of Stella, a transgender woman embracing her femininity, and Cinta, a resilient cisgender woman navigating personal hardships, alongside other characters facing inner conflicts and societal judgment. Through their journeys—exploring love, identity, and self-acceptance—the performance delivers a powerful message: true wholeness lies in embracing the complexity of oneself and others. Addressing broader issues like corruption and loss, Rectoverso inspires empathy and advocates for greater understanding of gender diversity and human struggles.
